Catching Up on the Last Few Years

April 10, 2013

Upon reading my last post I realize that I left off at the end of the Dr. Eades diet and never really wrapped things up. Well, at the end of everything, I dropped 17.5 pounds. I looked better than I had in years and had high hopes of finally keeping it off. I actually did well for around six months and then it all fell apart when my father died.

Mourning, I discovered, can take many forms. In my case, it was a mild depression primarily marked by a lack of caring and focus on my part. I began having the occasional glass of wine that often ran to two or three and that was enough to get me to grab some sugary product and just not care what I was consuming. Eventually, the weight came back, but my attitude is much improved now and I'm losing again. This time, however, I'm doing it using the Whole 30 plan combined with a workout with a personal trainer twice a week.

I feel stronger and I'm enjoying the foods I eat. The fat consumption is so high on this program that I'm rarely hungry and by getting rid of so many foods that contain toxins, I really feel clear-headed.

I had a bit of a setback on the program a week ago. We went to Snohomish to celebrate Dave's mom's 85th birthday and although I managed to stay faithful to it for the first week, I fell away the second week by having the occasional beer or glass of wine as well as a white potato or two. The beauty of it, however, is that all I have to do is just start over again.

Since the title of this entry is "catching up", I absolutely must report the best thing that has happened and that is the birth of our second grand-daughter, Brenna. She's such a little sweetie and Kaylee loves being a big sister. We often spend time with them at Disneyland or at the cottage we purchased in Big Bear Lake.
