This is Tiresome

Shortly after posting my last entry here, we received an offer on our house from the couple we were waiting for. After a little price negotiation, we settled on a final offer and got things in motion for a closing date of July 17th. Then everything hit the fan.

Two days later, we had the home inspector from Hell. He spent 3 hours going over every little detail of this house (it's only 5 years old) along with one of the buyers. At the end, he had the buyer convinced the house would need extensive repairs, an insect infestation and was in danger of collapsing. The end result is that the sale fell through and now our house is back on the market. We'll be spending the next week paying contractors to come in to tell us there's nothing wrong with the place.

From what we've heard from others selling their homes this year, these nit-picky inspections are becoming the rule. Alas, in our case, the buyer didn't know enough to be able to tell that the inspector either didn't know a lot of what he was talking about or was flat out wrong. At least we'll be able to take care of a few of those nit-picky details before we have to endure the next inspection when another buyer eventually comes along.

Waiting, waiting, waiting.......

So, it's been two weeks now since those buyers showed up for a second look and held out their carrot on a stick. We met with the moving estimators and picked out a company to move us. We're scheduled to pack out of here on July 14th. All because those potential buyers showed so much interest in our house and were in such a hurry to get into it. Then they disappeared.

A few others have looked at our house and even liked it. One woman liked it a lot, but can't make an offer until her own place sells. We're still scheduled to move out on July 14th because the moving companies are so booked up. They're on notice, though, that we might call next week to postpone everything. And then we got a phone call.

The people from two weeks ago decided not to move to Florida and wanted to take another look at our place before making a final decision so they came by yesterday afternoon and stayed for around a half hour looking over the place. We've discovered that they will be closing on July 20th on their current residence. We, however, are pretty much locked in to our move-out date of July 14th if we get an offer from them. I just hope that if they do make an offer, the process will be complete enough by the 14th for me to be comfortable with moving out. Should things fall through, this place will be left empty since once we won't be coming back again.

Of course, their offer could be too low. In that case, we'll just stick around here for a bit and enjoy the summer and travelling around the east coast.
